Frist won't run for president:
"In the Bible, God tells us for everything there is a season, and for me, for now, this season of being an elected official has come to a close," said the Tennessee Republican, a surgeon before he entered politics in 1994.
The verse Frist is refering to, of course, is Ecclesiastes 3, and it reads in part
. . . a time to carveth upon the cat, and a time to carveth the cat not, a time to bilk the taxpayer, and a time to leave the taxpayer unbilked, a time for a trust that sees, and a time for a trust that seeth not, a time to passeth legislation even unto the middle of the night, and a time to let the night cometh to rest, a time to speak of tears and sweat, and a time to not to speak of tears and sweat, even liketh unto national television, and a time to cheat, and a time to cheateth not . . .
Unlike other candidates, whose decisions about the presidency have come down to cold political calcultations, Frist probably has decided that he stands a better chance of staying out of prison if he keeps a low profile for a while.
I'm a little sad, though. I had such high hopes for the Great Diagnostician and me, and I know I'm gonna miss him.
